Città di Castello: Together with Umbertide, this is the nearest town to the village and is only 10 km away. The historic centre is known for its cylindrical Romanesque campanile, the 14th-century civic tower, the Palazzo del Podestà, its ancient churches and the Podestà picture gallery which houses works by Raphael and Luca Signorelli. Alternatively, lovers of more modern art can admire the Burri Collection, which houses works by the town’s local artist.

 

Montone: Around 15 km from Comunaglia and situated between the towns of Umbertide and Città di Castello is the village of Montone which is set amongst surroundings and places of remarkable beauty and is therefore ranked as one of the loveliest villages in Italy. Montone hosts cultural and folklore events throughout the year: from the Festa del bosco to the Festa della donazione della santa spina to the Umbria Film Festival.

 

Cortona: Situated in Tuscany and only 30 km away, Cortona is a famous destination for culture tourism. The medieval appearance of the buildings and the layout of the town with its surrounding walls lend it its special atmosphere. Its museums house works by great artists including Pietro Lorenzetti, Beato Angelico and Luca Signorelli, as well as vestments, altar cloths and holy vessels of significant value. The Cortonantiquaria is an event at the end of the summer that is not to be missed; it is one of the most interesting antiques fairs in the country.

 

Perugia: The regional capital is located around 40 km from Comunaglia. It is a city of art with a rich history and many monuments and it is the birthplace of Pinturicchio, one of the great painters of the Umbrian school in the 15th century, many of whose works can be admired in the city’s National Gallery and in the Palazzo dei Priori. The city hosts numerous events including the Umbria Jazz Festival and the Eurochocolate event.

 

Assisi: Situated around 60 km away from the village, Assisi has been named a World Heritage Site due to its cultural history and its splendour. As well as being an artistic and cultural centre, Assisi is also a religious centre. Don’t miss the Basilica of Saint Francis, in which the greatest artists of the age such as Giotto and Cimabue contributed to the decorations. In keeping with the spiritual message of the town, the "March for Peace" is held every two years.

 

Gubbio: Gubbio is approximately 40 km from Comunaglia and is one of the oldest towns in Umbria. It has been very well preserved over the centuries and is filled with monuments; the town is also home to major cultural and gastronomic events.

 

Spello: This is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and is only 65 km away from the Village. The splendid Baglioni Chapel painted by Pinturicchio can be seen in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Every year in May and June, the streets of the medieval village are transformed into a wonderful and immense carpet of flowers during the Infiorata event, making Spello the “flower capital”.

 

Umbertide: Situated the same distance away as Città di Castello (approx. 10 km) the town of Umbertide has a typically medieval appearance. The Citadel, an imposing medieval fortress, is home to the Centre for Contemporary Art and is the emblem of the town. Works by major artists such as Luca Signorelli and Pinturicchio have been preserved in the churches.
